About Us

BACKGROUND

RYP was founded in 2004 and started conducting activities in the same year. Through partnerships with 31 local and international development partners, RYP has engaged collaboratively with 150 partner community based organizations (CBOs) and self help groups (SHGs) touching approximately 3,000 families. According to a survey conducted by RYP in 2004, there are over 350 established groups in Huruma and Kiamaiko wards of Mathare constituency/Sub County.

Registered in 2004, RYP is a community-based organization (CBO) whose aim is enhancing the capacity of partner CBOs to regenerate local communities. RYP currently operates a community development centre- the Ongoza Njia Community Development Centre (OCDC) based at Kiamaiko ward in Mathare sub-county of Nairobi County.

GOALS

RYP overall objective is to empower local communities to realize their full potential in regenerating their communities through training, education, human rights / social justice awareness and economic empowerment. In addition, RYP supports local communities to identify and mobilize assets and resources located within their communities to minimize their dependence on external resources. RYP strategies heavily rely on partner CBOs as the avenue through which specific community interventions are formulated and implemented

BROAD OBJECTIVES

i.) To empower local communities to realize their potential in regenerating their communities through training and education.

ii.) To support target communities to identify and mobilize assets and resources located within their communities to minimize their dependence on external resources.

iii.) To create awareness on human rights and social justice in the target communities.

iv.) To enhance capacity of local communities to dialogue with government departments and elected leaders on policy issue.
